MLC 2006 Implementation

Background

The ILO Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC 2006) was ratified on 20 August 2012 and will enter into force on 20 August 2013. For both seafarers and ship owners, the MLC 2006 provides the necessary balance between labor standards and regulation and the promotion of productivity and competitiveness. MLC 2006 consolidates most of the existing ILO maritime labor conventions into one coordinated document.  It establishes minimum standards for such things as conditions of employment, hours of work and rest, accommodations, recreational facilities, food and catering, health protection, medical care, welfare, and social security protection.

The Convention will apply to all ships.  Every ship of 500 GT or more that is engaged on international voyages or operates from a port or between two ports of another Member State will need to be certificated in accordance with MLC 2006.

What we can do for your MLC 2006 implementation

Allgo Quality Service Management Services has already been through all steps of MLC preparing, application and audits many times. We know every step you need to do, and the different state requirements. DMLC part 1, DMLC part 2, Application, Office Audits and vessel Audits.

Today we have been part of following MLC flag approvals: Norway, Great Britain, Spain and Isle of Man.

We can review or redevelop the company’s documented Management System to meet the relevant MLC 2006 requirements. During this service we carry out a detailed Gap Analysis of the existing documentation, management system and operations/processes against the requirements of the MLC 2006.

The purpose of this service is to evaluate the current level of compliance with respect to the new requirements and we to identify the gaps (and therefore the action required) for meeting the relevant MLC requirements.

The gap analysis is to investigate not only the documented Management System but also all other relevant company activities which are related to the MLC requirements, such as the seafarers employment agreements, the allotment payroll , the company’s Safety and Health Occupational program.

We also simulate a MLC audit on office or at the vessel, so you could have exact data for your preparation.
